We start our half-day trip with a visit to the oldest temple of Wat Sisaket dating back in 1818. This is the most important heritage temple in terms of philology, epigraphs, iconography historiography and architecture ever built in Laos. Thousand of Buddha images from many countries, long lost architectural style, sculptures and painting are all found at this temple. At the front of the Wat Sisaket, we take in the Wat Hophakeo, the former royal temple of the Lao monarchy. It was built in 1565 by King Sethathirath to house Emerald Buddha image. Here are displayed the best examples of Buddhist sculpture along the surrounding terrace including a 6th to 9th century Dvaravati-style stone Buddha; several standing and sitting style Buddha.

We then drive of the city centre to Pha That Luang (Great Sacred Stupa). It is the most important national monument in Laos, a symbol of both the Buddhist religion and Lao sovereignty. Pha That Luang as seen today was rebuilt in 1566, during the reign of King Sethathirath, whose bases had a length of 69 meters each and 45 meters high, is surrounded by 30 small Stupa. On the way back to downtown we stopover at Patuxay Monument (Victory Gate). It was built to commemorate the unknown soldiers of the old regime in 1962 and has been well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. Today the place uses for the leisure of the tourists and the seventh floor on the top serves as the sightseeing point for overlooking the panoramic view of the capital.

Our last stop today is the Central market in the hearth of Vientiane.
