Built around a courtyard with a lovely fishpond and fountain, the quiet atmosphere of the Hotel Lao harkens back to an earlier, unhurried time. The original building, converted to a hotel in 1999, was constructed in the 1960s by a prominent Vientiane politician as a private residence. Traditional construction techniques are visible throughout the interior and exterior of the hotel.
The Hotel Lao now offers modern accommodation with friendly service, its facilities including a spacious open air courtyard restaurant, a meeting room and a travel agency. Unusually in a hotel in this price range, the Hotel Lao bedrooms are truly large. The high ceilings create a relaxed spaciousness that will immediately ease any tiredness created by a day of sightseeing and shopping.
