Day 2: Vientiane - Luang Prabang (B)

A short flight takes us to Luang Prabang, one of the best-preserved traditional cities in Southeast Asia. The tranquility and charm of this town with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos, and underlie its designation as a World Heritage site. On arrival, we climb up Mount Phousi with its superb views over the town and river. From there, we walk through the streets of Luang Prabang to visit the lively night market.

Day 3:  Luang Prabang - Pak Ou caves (B)

Today we visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun, the shrine of Wat Aham and Wat Mai, and continue to the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, representing the classic architecture of Luang Prabang’s temples. We then take a leisurely boat ride upstream on the Mekong River to Pak Ou Caves, crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues. En route, we stop at Ban Xanghai, where they make the local rice wine. We return by road passing through local villages and continuing to the former royal temple at Wat Longkhoun and nearby Sackarine Caves. We then take a short drive to Ban Phanom, well known for its hand weaving.

Day 4: Luang Prabang - Vientiane (B)

You may want to wake up early this morning and participate in the daily ritual of saffron-clad monks being offered ‘alms’ by the local people, including the ubiquitous sticky rice. This could be one of the highlights of your tour to this charming city.
After breakfast, visit The National Museum at the former Royal Palace, which displays a delightful collection of artifacts reflecting the richness of Royal Lao culture through the ages. We continue with a visit to a silversmith’s and the Fine Arts School and Central Market before catching your flight back to Vientiane.

After checking into your hotel, we journey to Buddha Park, a blend of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures created by a mystical monk on parkland located alongside the Mekong River and the impressive Friendship Bridge. A spectacular sunset over the Mekong River is a perfect way to finish the day.
